BDN - Banner Developer Network

We are configuring Luminis 4.1 for our client. They want the username for Luminis to be email. But the third party ID field in GOATPAD from in Banner is not accepting symbols like @. Is there a way to change the field property so that it accepts special characters? Also they are planning to upgrade to Banner 8. Is it the same form and process we use to extraxt the XML and import into Luminis? I am very new to Luminis and Banner, and any help in this regard will be greatly appreciated.
