INB vs SSB

Question from a new Banner security administrator: What triggers SSB or INB? Or perhaps, I should ask, what is the factor that determines access to SSB? to INB? Is it something in SIAINST? Or, is it a Web Tailor issue. Can a person have both SSB and INB? A year from now, I will be brilliant, I am sure, but for now, I am wading thru the learning process.

Different mechanisms

INB and SSB have different mechanisms. INB uses Oracle security to authenticate the users and an internal scheme for authorization. SSB uses Banner data (by default ID and PIN) or an external LDAP for authentication. Authorization is done via roles. Some roles are defined by Banner data (SIAINST for faculty and SGASTDN for students) while others are assigned individually (e.g. Web Tailor Administrator). There is nothing that keeps a person from being in both parts of the system and in fact for a Web Tailor administration they often need both.
