Single Sign-ON to Banner INB

Hello All,
We are going through a phase of discussions with some key people on campus to decide on the SSO to INB module in Banner. We do not have Banner fully functional yet but we are getting there. We already have a test instance running. One of the team members strongly feels that we shouldn't be going through the hastle of SSO to INB. I was just wondering what would be the percentage of us who would agree to the above statement.

My take on this argument is - why do we bother to buy two tightly integrated products and then decide not to go for a SSO. I was told that INB would be used by a small subset of population on campus but i would still like them to have the ability to use portal for all their needs. We strive our best to serve each and every individual on campus - i think this is almost as ridiculous as not giving a student his authentication credentials to view/obtain his records citing the example of numbers (because he is just one - he is not powerful enough to make some administrative decisions - he can be ignored).

But i was just wondering, how many of us actually use SSO to INB? If you could please respond - that would be great.

Thank you,
-Shiva

We're keeping them separate for now

Hi, Shiva,

If only the paranoid survive, I'll probably live forever.

At this point, we're still limiting who can access Banner from off campus. I just don't think enough of our users understand the ramifications of downloading data onto their personal PC's. A user wouldn't need to download data to their PC to do his or her job, but the ability to pop reports to web browser and do data extracts into Excell make it really easy. With that in mind, we keep INB inside the firewall and don't use SSO. For the people that need access to Banner from off campus, we let them in through our VPN.

Yes, I'm paranoid. Will it help me live longer? Probably just the opposite. Still, I can't seem to turn it off.

Take care.

We SSO to Banner INB.

We SSO to Banner INB. However, for security, our INB is only available on campus, and users just know that even though there's a link in the portal for INB, if they're off campus, it won't work. It hasn't been too much of an issue. If they need access off-campus, we VPN. Even though our INB users are a small subset, I think SSO to INB has been a huge benefit for us.
